Watermark Hub Opens in Hebden Bridge
The Watermark shop had its official launch in Hebden Bridge on 24th June. The opening event had a Christmas theme, to coordinate with the town’s “Christmas in June” weekend, and took place on “Christmas Eve”. Councillor Tony Hodgins, Mayor of Hebdenroyd, officially opened the shop.
Watermark is a campaign created by Totally Locally and the Community Foundation for Calderdale to create a resilience fund for future flooding. The campaign is to encourage local businesses to donate a percentage of any chosen goods or services sold to a fund which can be used in the event of further flooding.
Chadwick Lawrence solicitors in Halifax have provided the funding for the shop in the town. Angela Thorp, family solicitor with the firm and its Watermark coordinator, said “The shop in Hebden Bridge is designed as a hub for locals and visitors alike to create awareness of the campaign. It will also be used by other local organisations, such as Calderdale Credit Union, as well as the Community Foundation. As well as providing funding for the shop, Chadwick Lawrence will donate 10% of all fees charged to new clients in the postcodes affected by the Boxing Day floods to the fund.”
Further events to promote the hub and the campaign are to take place over the course of the rest of the year.
