Managing Partner, Neil Wilson, plays an active part in the career progression and well-being of every member of the Chadwick Lawrence team.

Neil is a face you’ll quickly come to recognise, working from any one of our eight Yorkshire sites; he insists on not having a permanent office. In fact, Neil was once referred to as our “Legal Nomad” but it definitely wasn’t by one of us!

With over 25 years in the legal profession (and a few outside of it too) Neil’s vision for the firm is one of constant, progressive and considered evolution where each decision is made with people at the very heart of it.

Our current management structure sees three of our board members being former trainee solicitors at the firm and in addition to this, several of our Equity Partners also started their careers at Chadwick Lawrence.

I started at Chadwick Lawrence fresh out of college in 2005, not really knowing what the future would hold. I soon developed a passion for law and expressed an interest in pursuing a legal career. I was allowed to take part in a part time degree course and subsequently commenced a training contract. Throughout this time I gained invaluable experience and knowledge whilst working alongside senior solicitors and taking an active part on a whole range of legal disputes and issues. After completing my Legal Practice Course, I qualified as a solicitor in 2013 and went on to become partner in 2019. In 14 years I’d gone from leaving college not fully knowing what I wanted to do with my life, to being a partner in a law firm. This speaks volumes of Chadwick Lawrence and what they are all about. If you make the effort and put in the hard work you are rewarded, as simple as that. You are allowed to express yourself without any fixed regime and if you want to succeed, you will.

The Role

We’re looking to recruit a newly qualified Solicitor to our burgeoning Criminal Law team, presenting an opportunity to learn and work alongside some of the best in the business.

 

What You Can Expect

The successful applicant can expect to receive the finest on-the-job training in Criminal Law with a particular emphasis on motoring law matters.

The role will involve preparing and conducting cases in the Magistrates Court, the Crown Court as well as PACE interviews on occasion.  We only accept private paying instructions and there is no Legal Aid work. As such there is no requirement for regular out of hours police station attendance or court work although some out of business hours work may be required albeit on an infrequent basis.

The department also deals with general commercial regulatory work and you will gain experience and develop expertise in these areas, as well as some intellectual property work and sports law. Training will also be given on conducting hearings in the Magistrates Court and the applicant must again be willing to develop this experience. This is with a view to running such matters without supervision in the future. If you’re looking to progress quickly but with complete support from experienced professionals, then this is the role for you.

Whilst newly qualified, we don’t need someone with experience in criminal law but an eagerness to embrace this area of practices is essential, as is a desire to train and develop your skills on an ongoing basis. About the role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Property Paralegal to work within our busy Property team.  This role will be based at our Dock Street office based in Leeds Town Centre which is located close to the train station and the M62.

Experience is not necessary, but preference will be given to candidates with some experience or a background understanding of property law gained during their studies.  Consideration will also be given to those who otherwise demonstrate the skills and experience we are looking for.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and ambitious person who wants to develop their skills further through working on a wide range of quality instructions. You would be working closely with senior members of the team, providing support in all aspects including drafting/preparation of documentation, preparation of reports to clients, file administration and land registry applications.

Applicants should ideally possess the following skills and experience:

  • a completed law degree or conversion from a non-law degree (consideration will also be given to those without a degree but with relevant experience in the workplace)
  • strong IT skills
  • the high degree of initiative and the ability to manage your time and your workload effectively
  • excellent communication skills and a desire to use these to promote the team and the firm both internally and externally
  • a willingness to learn, to drive your own career progression and to be proactive in achieving this

Progression opportunities are genuinely available at Chadwick Lawrence, including potential progression to a training contract (or SQE route to qualification if applicable).  The firm has an annual application and selection process for this through its Pathway to Progression programme.

We are recruiting at all levels including Administration Assistants, Trainee Assistants, and Conveyancing Assistants with experience.

We are looking for hard working team players, who have a passion for client care, and those who are enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced environment. We are seeking candidates who are keen to learn and have a proven academic record. We have an excellent training programme to facilitate learning and career progression, so if you have a “can-do” positive attitude, and are open to a challenge, then we can give you the legal skills to succeed in this varied and rewarding role. Candidates will either know how to, or could be shown how to, work as part of a team and support our Conveyancers in everyday tasks such as dealing with general queries, assisting with completions, conducting searches, typing various letters, liaising with clients, solicitors, referrers and estate agents.

About the role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Corporate lawyer to work within our growing Corporate team, primarily based at our Leeds Office but with scope to work partly from home if this is desirable.

Ideally suitable for someone with 3+ years of experience of Corporate work, although consideration will be given to applicants who otherwise demonstrate the skills and experience we are looking for.

NQ Solicitor – Criminal Law Department

Location:                   Huddersfield/Halifax Office

Responsible to:      Partner in charge of the Department

Hours:                         Full time 37 ½ hours per week

Chadwick Lawrence is seeking a newly qualified solicitor to work in our growing criminal law team.

The successful applicant will receive training in criminal law with an emphasis on motoring law matters.  The applicant does not therefore need to have experience in criminal law but will need to display a willingness to complete train and develop in this area. Training will also be given on conducting hearings in the Magistrates Court and the applicant must again be willing to develop this experience.

The role will involve preparing and conducting cases in the Magistrates Court, the Crown Court as well as PACE interviews on occasion.  We only accept private paying instructions and there is no Legal Aid work. As such there is no requirement for regular out of hours police station attendance or court work although some out of business hours work may be required albeit on an infrequent basis.

The department also deals with general commercial regulatory work and the applicant will gain experience and develop expertise in these areas, as well as some intellectual property work and sports law. This is with a view to running such matters without supervision in the future.

This role will involve working with high quality clients with a varied case load. Our recent clients include several high-profile athletes and sports organisations.  Our team is expanding rapidly. We are a friendly, proactive team who wish to invest in the successful applicant to become a long-term member of this close-knit team.

We are looking for a candidate who will enjoy business development activities with strong IT skills.

The role will be based in both of our Huddersfield and Halifax offices.  The applicant will also be required to attend our other offices, be able to travel to court and to client meetings at client premises.
