Defamation
When people refer to “defamation”, this covers libel and slander. Libel or slander concerns the publication of material that is considered defamatory, which is something that adversely affects a person’s reputation. Libel concerns a more permanent form of publication, such as in print or written format, slander concerns less permanent publications, such as words spoken.
A statement is considered defamatory if it has caused (or is likely to cause) serious harm to the reputation of an individual.
