New Addition to our Family

Chadwick Lawrence are delighted to welcome a new addition to our Family team, Harjit Rait. Harjit joins our Leeds team from a niche News practice, Jarvis News in Harrogate. Harjit brings with her a wealth of experience in dealing with a wide range of News matters, specialising in financial matters following separation or divorce and will often advices clients on settlements involving businesses and pension assets. In addition Harjit advises on all aspects of children law such as contact and residence.

Harjit also has the ability and experience to deal with the difficulties and sensitivities that can often be inherent within Asian divorces. She understands the community and cultural issues as well as the impact that religious and family expectations may have. Although the divorce procedure itself remains unaltered, there are other aspects to an Asian divorce which require attention such as:

• The return of Jewellery and Dowry issues;
• Financial applications if the divorce has occurred overseas;
• Financial contributions made by family members

Harjit’s awareness of specific cultural issues and extensive experience in divorce matters mean that she is ideally placed to provide specialist advice and assistance no matter how difficult the situation is. She is fluent in Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu which clients find extremely valuable.
