Chadwick Lawrence Assist Successful Builders Merchant Acquisition
Chadwick Lawrence’s corporate department recently assisted in a successful builders merchant acquisition, acting for the sellers of an independent builders merchants with sites in West Yorkshire, who were acquired by the largest independent builders merchants in Wales and North-West England.
Huws Gray Builders Merchants recently acquired its first site in Yorkshire, purchasing James Wilby Builders Merchants. The acquisition includes both James Wilby branches located in Heckmondwike and Horbury Bridge, Wakefield. The business has a history of supplying a wide range of building materials to both the trade and DIY sectors since 1986 and has an excellent reputation in the area.
The transaction was led by corporate associate Sarah Hemmings with partner Cheryl Largue advising on the commercial property aspects of the deal. Chadwick Lawrence has acted for the business for a number of years.
Sarah Hemmings commented: “We are delighted to see our client’s hard work and commercial success over the years culminate in a great selling opportunity for them. We pride ourselves as lawyers on knowing our clients’ business inside out and we have been delighted to advise and assist this client on numerous matters over the years. We wish the exiting sellers success with their future plans and the buyer with taking the business to the next level.”
The former managing director of James Wilby, Neil Harbridge, commented about the deal: “We are delighted to be leaving our business in such good hands and that three decades of hard work have been rewarded.”
In relation to representation by Chadwick Lawrence he added: “Sarah and Cheryl have made the whole process of selling our business far more straightforward than we ever envisaged and we have reached our end goal in a far shorter timescale than I had anticipated.
“From the start we were clearly dealing with a professional and vastly experienced team of lawyers who have a wealth of experience in dealing with matters such as ours. They were clearly adept at recognising and advising on the issues which we came across on the sale, which was a massive help and reassurance for us as sellers.”
Terry Owen, Huws Gray’s managing director, also commented: “We’re delighted with our first acquisition of 2017, and the exciting opportunity this provides with the first venture into Yorkshire. Both branches already have a wide range of products in stock and both sites offer a lot of potential.”
The transaction adds to the number of substantial transactions completed by Chadwick’s corporate and commercial property departments this year.
