Regulator warns of growing ‘care injustice’ for public due to NHS struggles
In their latest annual report, the Care Quality Commission have warned that the public is facing increasing ‘care injustice’ as they are finding it progressively more difficult to find help in England.
The regulator highlighted increasing hospital waiting lists, record dissatisfaction levels with GPs and growing delays at A&E.
The following points were amongst those highlighted in the report:
•Increasing A&E waiting times and overcrowded wards
•Growing waiting lists for operations
•Increasing rates of preventable hospital admissions
•The lack of GP out of hours care.
The NHS is fighting an increasing problem with supply and demand. The rise in diseases such as diabetes and the ageing population means more and more people are in need of treatment, at a time when they face staff shortages in key areas, 9 per cent of doctor posts and 12 per cent of nursing posts are vacant.
A spokesperson from the Department of Health and Social Care has said “We want the NHS to be the safest healthcare system in the world – and this starts by ensuring every single patient in this country receives the highest quality of care, no matter where they live.”
