Nurse ‘impaired by lack of competence’ struck off
The nurse, who worked at the Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre, has been stuck off after being found guilty of a string of errors.
The centre is run for the NHS by private healthcare company Care UK.
Following a review by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Mr Wynburne was found guilty of a number of errors over a 24 month period, including not advising patients to stop taking medication and a failure to record blood tests and urine samples. He also cleared patients for surgery despite their blood pressures being too high.
The NMC panel ruled Mr Wynburne’s fitness to practice as a nurse was “impaired by a lack of competence.” He had previously been suspended by the NMC in June 2017 for nine months, a suspension which was later extended twice.
In a letter to the panel, Mr Wynburn said the review “almost destroyed him”, adding “It has brought my nearly 40-year career as a caring and dedicated nurse to a sad end.”
Care UK have said that no patients were put at risk by Mr Wynburne’s actions, adding that they had taken every step necessary to ensure patients’ safety when his actions first came to light.
