New Parkinson’s disease sensor pen receives funding boost
A medical technology firm is to launch a “digital pen” designed to deliver an early warning of Parkinson’s disease as well as other neurological conditions.
The new NeuroMotor Pen, developed by Edinburgh-based Manus Neurodynamica, is designed to help diagnose and monitor neuromotor impairments by way of analysing the slightest hand and limb movements.
The pen has passed clinical trials with the NHS in Scotland and the north east of England, and is currently being used by Northumbria NHS Foundation Trust.
Rutger Zietsma, Manus’ chief executive, said “Having spent more than ten years developing, trialling and refining our first product, we can finally look forward to seeing our NeuroMotor Pens implemented more broadly and making a real difference to the lives of people living with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions.”
