New 100% accurate blood test can diagnose heart attack faster than ever
A study has confirmed that a new blood test that can detect whether someone is having a heart attack has been deemed effective and safe.
The test, which is employed in Accident & Emergency departments, can effectively detect potentially-fatal episodes faster than has been done before and in trials was said to be 100 per cent accurate.
The technique works by measuring proteins which are released by damaged heart cells during a heart attack.
Dr Rebecca Vigen, lead author and cardiologist ad the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Centre, said “We did not miss any heart attacks using this test in this population.
“The test also allowed us to determine faster that many patients who had symptoms of a heart attack were not having a heart attack than if we had relied on the traditional test.”
