Local leaders give backing for multi-million pound extension plans for Calderdale Royal Hospital
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust has revealed the latest artists’ impressions and proposals for development work and new buildings at Calderdale Royal Hospital, including new departments, a multi-storey staff and patient car park, and extension of hospital buildings.
Philip Lewer, chair of the trust, said “This is very much an ongoing journey to ensure we provide the best hospital healthcare for patients and families in Huddersfield and Calderdale for now and for future generations.”
The trust say the proposed developments will improve service delivery, provide improved patient safety and clinical facilities, and will enable compliance with national recommendations for estate and clinical service delivery.
A new 30,000 m2 hospital building and associated estate developments is being planned, to include new paediatric and adult A&E departments, a further ten inpatient wards and additional theatre capacity. The multi-storey car park will be of a similar height and scale to the existing main hospital buildings and the trust say will have ‘high-quality and sensitive design response to setting in the townscape’.
Leader of Calderdale Council Councillor Tim Swift, said “The plans for Calderdale Royal Hospital represent significant investment in our borough, as we progress towards the Vision2024 for Calderdale to help people live a larger life.
“In Calderdale, we have a strong focus on improving local people’s wellbeing and ensuring the best care that meets each person’s individual needs within their own community. So it’s great to see the proposals for the hospital, which would boost facilities for patients and staff, help attract new talent and bring wider social and economic benefits. As local people are at the heart of our health and care system, it’s really important that they have their say on the plans.”
