CQC rates Northamptonshire care home inadequate due to safety risks
Following a Care Quality Commission inspection in January, Bell Lodge in Northamptonshire has been placed into special measures. The inspection found issues with management, medicines, infection control and staffing at the 15-resident home.
Management at the care home have said they were “determined to meet the actions” requested by the inspectors.
Bell Lodge was last inspected in 2019, when it was found that they required improvement. A further visit was made following concerns raised “in relation to staffing levels, safe care of people and management oversight.”
It found an absence of effective systems to ensure people were safe, and poor cleaning practices, “including the unsafe disposal of used personal protective equipment.”
In a statement, the care home said that staff were “shocked and saddened” to read the inspectors’ report, which represented “a snapshot” of the home during an outbreak of coronavirus in January.
They added “We are now determined to meet the actions that the CQC has asked us to take. We have produced a plan of how we will work on all issues raised and have submitted this to the CQC.”
