Bradford Teaching Hospitals amongst 10 worst trusts in England for cancer care waits
Research shows that nearly three quarters of cancer services are failing to treat patients rapidly enough.
Although hospitals are meant to begin treatment within 62 days of a referral in 85% of cases, 94 out of 131 cancer services in England failed to achieve the target in the last 12 months, compared to 36 five years ago.
Bradford Teaching Hospitals only managed to achieve this target in 67.1 per cent of cases.
Cancer charities have voiced their concerns, saying the long waits are putting patients at risk.
Macmillan Cancer Support’s Moira Fraser-Pearce, said it was clear that the service was “too stretched”.
She went on to say “The longer people have to wait for diagnosis and treatment, the longer it will impact them, their health and wellbeing and just getting through that experience.”
Responding to the news, a spokesperson from NHS England said “Cancer survival is at an all-time high in England and that is because the NHS continues to put itself under pressure by ramping up the number of people who get checked so that ore cancers are caught early when they are easier to treat.”
