Baby death trust ordered to report weekly to Care Quality Commission
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust has been ordered to report weekly to the Care Quality Commission on their maternity services, to protect patients.
An investigation into the maternity deaths at the trust was ordered by former health secretary Jeremy Hunt and this has since widened.
The CQC have said that they remain “very concerned” of the services and the trust has said it had taken “immediate action”.
An unannounced inspection took place at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in August, following which concerns were raised over the trust’s guidelines on the monitoring of foetal movements, and this led to a further unannounced visit on 7th September.
Following this visit, the Chief Inspector of Hospitals, Professor Ted Baker, said “We will return to check on whether sufficient improvements have been made and will take further action if needed.”
The trust’s Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Quality, Deirdre Fowler, said that they were meeting national guidelines in their maternity unit and added that they had provided the CQC with records to show this.
The full inspection findings have yet to be published.
