Analysis shows sharp rise in hospital waiting times
A review by The Health Foundation has shown that hospital waiting times in England have risen markedly in the last five years.
In the twelve months between 2016 and 2017, NHS waiting time targets were missed for A&E, cancer and routine operations for the first time in its history, and the researchers warned that the situation could get worse before it improves.
Tim Gardner of The Health Foundation said “Maintaining, let alone improving, the quality of care provided is going to be very difficult in the current financial climate.
“Funding for the NHS in England will need to increase if these hard won gains to the quality of patient care are to be upheld and built upon in the future.
“Waiting time targets for A&E, cancer and consultant-led treatment are a useful barometer of pressure on the NHS.”
