What is Family Mediation?
Family Mediation gives separating parties an opportunity to decide for themselves in a neutral venue what to do about resolving issues about their children and finances with an impartial mediator.
In the mediation, the parties are encouraged to cooperate with the other in negotiations and find solutions to move forward with their lives.
Mediation can help you stay in control. No one can make you do anything against your wishes.
Mediation is not intended to replace legal advice. The mediator will encourage both parties to seek legal advice throughout the process.
If an agreement is reached in mediation in respect of financial matters then this may be incorporated into a Deed of Separation or a Court Order.
A judge will have expected a party to have considered mediation before applying to the Court and can refuse to hear a case if this has not been done.
Research shows that family mediation can cost less than a quarter of the price of attending Court and take a quarter of the time and also achieve better results.
Mediation is quicker and cheaper at resolving disputes and gives the parties control of their lives.
